AKA. Ladri di biciclette
Director: Vittorio De Sica
Starring: Lamberto Maggiorani, Enzo Staiola

A classic Italian film by one of the great pioneers of Neorealism, Vittorio De Sica. Neorealism is commonly known as films made about working class people struggling against poverty and changing political views post WWII. Now as drab as that might sound this is actually an entertaining story with great characters and surprisingly good acting from amateurs who where often used in Neorealistic films by Italian directors.

Antonio Ricci (Lamberto Maggiorani) finally gets a job but needs to get his bike back from the pawnshop. His wife hocks the bed linen to get money for the bike but on his first day at work it gets stolen and they try in vain to find it.

Bruno Ricci (Enzo Staiola) the little boy is great as he mimics his father, funny then sad. You really feel for Antonio and his family and the last scene of the movie is a real emotional moment, very memorable. Of all the Neorealism films, this is the best... DIDOMAN - 9/9 (Netflix)
