A film where every scene takes an eternity. I'm sad to say that my first experience of Antonioni included temptation's to hit the fast forward button, small naps and sheer boredom.
Rich Italians on a volcanic island enjoy themselves when Anna goes missing. Sandro (Gabriele Ferzetti) her boyfriend, and Claudia (Monica Vitti) her friend, begin a search. While searching they develop an attraction for each other and quickly forget about Anna.
I saw Sandro as the self indulgent playboy that seeks the easy way out from his pain by seducing the confused Claudia. Rich and bored they waste no time in exploring every emotion in a search for meaning to their lives.
Not an easy film to watch, as ones attention span is tested, but this in itself maybe what Antonioni was trying to achieve; feeling the boredom and emptiness of the characters. I want to give this a second chance, as I have read its worth it. Next time I hope to stay awake... DIDOMAN - 3/9 (Netflix)
